Thanksgiving Day is almost here, and we are so thankful to all of you for using our products and for allowing us to share our blog with you each month. We love to help you grow…and we are blessed when you allow us to help you farm with Daddy Pete’s products!
For this month’s reminders, November is still a great month to plant fruit bushes and fruit trees (such as apples, blackberries, blueberries, figs, nectarines, peaches, pears, persimmons, plums, strawberries); shade trees; shrubs; and border evergreen trees. Daddy Pete’s Planting Mix is an excellent growing medium for all of these items. If you need to amend your existing soil for planting, we recommend Daddy Pete’s Composted Cow Manure, Daddy Pete’s Kickin’ Chickin, Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil, or Daddy Pete’s Mushroom Compost. Use our Daddy Pete’s Raised Bed Mix to refresh your raised beds in preparation for spring; and don’t forget our Daddy Pete Mulches for all of your mulching jobs. To help keep your animals warm, Daddy Pete’s Sawdust is an excellent, dry bedding for dogs, horses, goats, and other livestock animals.
November is also a wonderful season for gathering with family and friends to share a meal together. Once again, for our November recipes, we are sharing ideas for a traditional, Thanksgiving meal. We have found some recipes that will make use of some of the items you have harvested in your gardens, raised beds, or patio containers this year. If you have frozen or canned fruits and vegetables, they will work great in these recipes.
For breakfast we have a Veggie-Loaded Breakfast Casserole and a Berry French Toast Casserole. For appetizers to enjoy while you prepare the main meal, you can try Fall Bruschetta or Cornucopia Cups.
For a light salad before the main meal, try a Fall Fruit Salad Recipe.
For your main, traditional, Thanksgiving meal, here are some great recipe options: an Herb Butter Roast Turkey; a Maple Glazed Ham; Cranberry Apple Stuffing; Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Cinnamon Butternut Squash with Pecans & Cranberries; a Creamed Corn Recipe; Garlic Green Beans; Sweet Potato Gratin; Honey Roasted Carrots; and Milk Bread Rolls with Honey Sage Butter. For dessert, we have 2 options: Praline Pumpkin Pie and Easy Salted Caramel Apple Pie. If you have leftovers—we suggest: Ross Geller’s Thanksgiving Leftover Turkey Sandwich and a Stuffing Dumpling Soup Recipe.
If you are making plans to watch the Thanksgiving Day parades or ballgames on TV, here are some snack ideas for munching on while you watch: Pumpkin Spice Popcorn and Healthy Pumpkin Spiced Nuts.
If Thanksgiving weekend takes you outdoors, remember that November is a great month for pruning deciduous trees, planting spring bulbs, amending beds for spring planting, or refreshing raised beds. For these projects, we recommend using Daddy Pete’s Composted Cow Manure, Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil, Daddy Pete’s Mushroom Compost, or Daddy Pete’s Planting Mix. Also, while you are off from work, don’t forget to do maintenance on your gardening tools and to service your gas-operated gardening equipment. In addition, this is a good time to purchase your seeds for next spring and to start a gardening journal for next year.
